Chesapeake Energy Contest Awards Shelby County Students - March 12, 2010

Center High School and Excelsior School students are third to win award

CENTER, TEXAS – Two local students received an unexpected surprise this week. Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders contest awarded its third set of plaques in Shelby County Friday, March 12.

Seth Brittain, an 18-year-old student at Center High School, and Alanea Hooper, a 13-year-old student at Excelsior School, were recognized for their service and leadership qualities within FFA, Beta Club and their communities.

Seth currently serves as the president of Center Future Farmers of America. He is also involved in the agricultural mechanics division of the program, leading his team to a first place showmanship victory at the San Antonio Stock Show. Seth is also a member of National Honor Society and active in the youth program at Shelbyville First Baptist Church.

Alanea is the president of the Junior Beta Club and also participates in the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the 4-H Drill Team. She is a great role model for her peers, participating annually in delivering food and donating canned goods to the Shelby Outreach Center.

Chesapeake will donate a desktop computer to Center High School and Excelsior School in the winning students’ names, and they will each be eligible for the grand prize drawing of a brand new laptop at a special awards banquet in April.

Both Seth and Alanea were recognized during school-wide assemblies at their respective schools where Paul Pratt, Chesapeake’s Manager-Public Affairs, spotlighted their accomplishments and announced the new computer each school would be receiving.

Seth and Alanea were selected from more than 230 nominations and judged by the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce on qualities of leadership, character, volunteerism and a sense of community.

Contest Overview

· Two students from Shelby County will continue to be recognized every other week for the next seven weeks.
· Each winning student’s school will receive a desktop computer.
· All eight students will be recognized at an awards banquet in April.
· During the banquet, a drawing will be held and two lucky students will receive new, fully-equipped laptop computers.
· Eligible students are members of 4-H Clubs, FFA or any non-profit 501c(3) community service organization in Shelby County.

Nominations are due each Wednesday and can be found in The Light & Champion and online at ShelbyCountyToday.com. The final winners will be selected March 26.

CENTER, TEXAS – Two local students received an unexpected surprise this week. Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders contest awarded its second set of plaques in Shelby County Friday, February 26, 2010.

Tenaha High and Center Intermediate School students are first of eight to win award

CENTER, TEXAS – Two local students received an unexpected surprise this week. Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders contest awarded its first plaques in Shelby County Monday, Feb. 15.

Dustin Bridges (left photo), a 17-year-old student at Tenaha High School, and Konner Windham (right photo), a ten-year-old student at Center Intermediate School, were recognized for their service and leadership qualities within the 4-H Club and their communities.

Chesapeake will donate a desktop computer to Tenaha High School and Center Intermediate School in the winning students’ names, and they will each be eligible for the grand prize drawing of a brand new laptop at a special awards banquet in April.

Both Dustin and Konner were recognized during school-wide, morning assemblies at Tenaha High School and Center Intermediate School where Jennifer Voisin and Katie McCullin, Chesapeake Energy’s Coordinator of Public Affairs and Media Relations Coordinator, spotlighted their accomplishments and announced the new computer each school would be receiving.

They were selected as the first winners in Shelby County for their extensive volunteer work through the 4-H Club and throughout their communities.

Chesapeake Energy Seeks to Honor Deserving Young Leaders in Shelby County

CENTER, TEXAS – Students in Shelby County may now be spending a little more time in the spotlight. Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders contest officially launched on Monday.

The contest is designed to recognize and reward local school students for their citizenship and community involvement. Beginning Feb. 10, two students will be recognized in alternating weeks for a period of eight weeks. The first two winners will be announced Feb. 12.

“Through our support of education, we are committed to providing leadership as a responsible corporate citizen and dedicated community advocate,” said Kevin McCotter, Chesapeake’s Director of Corporate Development. “At Chesapeake Energy, we are excited to demonstrate our commitment to the communities in Shelby County by presenting Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders to the outstanding young students in this county. Their hard work and dedication is extraordinary and deserving of recognition.”

Each winning student’s school will receive a desktop computer and all eight winners will be recognized at an awards banquet April 13. During the banquet, a drawing will be held, and two lucky students will receive a new, fully equipped laptop computer.

Eligible students are members of FFA, 4-H Club or provide community service to any non-profit organization. The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce will select winners based on qualities of leadership and community involvement.

Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders Now Accepting Nominations

Chesapeake Energy is now accepting nominations for Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders in Shelby County. Nominate Shelby County students who have displayed outstanding leadership qualities within a volunteer organization. From elementary school to high school, Chesapeake is looking for exceptional members of the 4-H Club, FFA or any other volunteer organization. Beginning February 10, two young leaders from Shelby County will be selected every other week for seven weeks. A computer will be donated to each winner’s school and two lucky winners from Shelby County will be selected from all honorees to win a personal laptop computer.
