Mills Jr., Asst. Pastor and Minister
of Youth of First Baptist. Beginning
the services the song “Daddy’s
Hands” was performed by
granddaughter, Mary McClellan.
Before the very moving and heartwarming
message, a song that Mr. McClellan
heard his mother sing almost endlessly
during his childhood and youth,
“The Gray Speckled Bird”
was sung by Bro. John Neilson.
The message closed with the song,
“The Dad He Didn't Have
To Be".
Preceded
in death by his brother, Major
McClellan and wives Earlene Kea
McClellan and Sandra Baggett McClellan,
he left many loved ones behind
including wife of 23 years, Barbara
Neal McClellan; brother, John
L. and wife, Sue McClellan; sister,
Rachel and husband, Henry Jones;

husband Tony Parrish ; Selena
(McClellan) and husband Mike Weaver;
and
Claudann (McClellan) and husband
Bruce Jones. He was also blessed
with 29 grandchildren and 10 great
grandchildren.
Born
in New Edenburg, Arkansas on September
21, 1930 to the late Jewel McClellan
and Arah Gray McClellan, Dick
spent his younger working years
doing various jobs and on the
weekends to travel to rodeo arenas
taking a chance on riding or roping
anything he could. Being well
known as a cutting horse trainer,
he and his young family spent
several years on a ranch in Arkansas
as a trainer.
In
the 60’s his profession
changed to construction and once
more his dare devil attitude took
him to places he had only dreamed
of. His traveling days ended in
Logansport, Louisiana when Georgia
Pacific was being built. Falling
in love with the beautiful countryside
and the Sabine he retired from
Louisiana Pacific. After a couple
of months he realized that he
had worked too long to quit now
so found employment at Kirkland
Enterprises in Joaquin, TX. There
he was know by all the “girls”
as
“Mr. D.” and was loved
by all of them.
From
there he went to the Logansport
Dump Site and spent the last five
years of his life enjoying the
company of others. Dick, or “Mr.
Dick” as known by many,
never met a person that he didn’t
talk to and he loved to talk.
Having many years of very interesting
stories about his travels while
working, family and life in general,
he could talk for
hours.
Always
wanting to do a job right he sometimes
made people mad because he would
tell them where to put their trash.
But, that was the way he was and
rarely backed down. He was a hard
worker, doing nothing half way,
and taught his own children this
very important trait.
He
was a man that loved his family
with all of his heart. And accepted
each of them as the unique individuals
they were. His heart was as big
as he was, always willing to help
a friend, family member or even
a stranger. His pockets were deep
when a grandchild was around and
they knew how to play him for
a sucker. Having a very large
blended family he treated each
child equally, scolding when necessary
and praising more
often than necessary.
This
man was a very independent person
and rarely asked for help because
he didn’t want to impose
himself on anyone. He was that
way even to the very end. His
loved ones know that he is know
enjoying life everlasting, saying
“Hi there” to everyone
that comes through those pearly
white gates.
Pallbearers

Todd Kreamer, Major (Boo) McClellan,
