Wanda Roper, age 77,
of San Augustine passed away Wednesday,
June 25, 2008. Mrs. Roper was
born May 14, 1931, in Dallas as
a daughter of the late Ozzie Lee
(Wilson) and Malcolm Carl Harrison
and had been a longtime resident
of San Augustine. She was a business
manager with the family owned
Roper Motor Company in San Augustine
for 30 years. Mrs. Roper was also
a member of San Augustine's First
United Methodist Church and actively
served with several civic organizations
in San Augustine.

Thomas
Earl “Tom” Scruggs,
63, of Joaquin, passed away Sunday,
June 15, 2008 at his home. He
was born October 24, 1944 in Shelbyville
to Lawrence Thomas Scruggs and
Edith Marie Clark Scruggs. Mr.
Scruggs retired from the Air Force,
where he attained the rank of
Master Sergeant, and was a member
of the Air Force Sergeant’s
Association. He was a member of
Jackson Baptist Church in Joaquin.
Visitation

pm, Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at

in Center. Funeral services will
be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday,

Aguillon Zuniga, age
27, of San Augustine, Texas, passed
away Tuesday, June 10, 2008, in
San Augustine County.
Mrs. Zuniga was born Jan. 13,
1981, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
She was a member of St. Augustine
Catholic Church.
Survivors: husband, Leonel Zuniga-Pineda
of San Augustine; daughters, Nancy
Elizette Zuniga and Diana Elizabeth
Zuniga, both of San Augustine;
parents, Dalila Castro and Arturo
Aguillon of Mexico; sisters, Aracely
Aguillon of New York, and Graciela
Aguillon and Martha Aguillon,
both of Mexico; and brothers,

both of Mexico.
Funeral mass will be held at 5:00
p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at St.
Augustine Catholic Church in San
Augustine with Father Jorge Dinguis
officiating. Interment will be
at a later date in Mexico.

Bess
Smith passed away Saturday,
June 14, 2008 in Houston, Texas
at the age of 95. She was the
daughter of James Homer Smith
and Pearl Nix Smith of Timpson,
and was born and raised there.
A longtime resident of Houston,
she was a retired teacher of Poe
Elementary School, Houston Independent
School District.
In
addition to her parents, she was
predeceased by a brother, James
Dale Smith; a sister, Marcelle
Smith Cowart, her husband Edmund
and their daughter Mary; and her
brother-in-law, John Benton Davis.
She is survived by her brother,
Robert Ray Smith and his wife
Anita; her sister, Joy Smith Davis;
her sister-in-law Marceil Smith;
nine nieces and nephews and a
host of "great" and
"great-great" nieces
and nephews. She loved and was
devoted to her family throughout
her life.
Funeral
services will be held Monday,
June 16 at 1:00 pm at Taylor Funeral
Home in Timpson, with burial to
follow at the Caledonia Cemetery.
Her nephews and nieces are honored
to serve as the pallbearers.

services for Louis Rhodney
Stinson, 78, of Shelbyville,
Texas will be held at Lydia Missionary
Baptist Church at 1 PM Saturday,
June 21, 2008. His remains will
be interned at The National Cemetery
in Arlington, Texas.
Mr. Stinson passed away peacefully
on June 13, 2008 in Dallas. His
children were at his side. He
was born in Foreman, AR on November
29, 1929 to Merrill Louis Stinson
and Georgia Irene Johnson Stinson.
During his early years, they moved
to Ashdown where his father ran
a general store. He was a graduate
of Ashdown High School where he
was in the band and the drama
club. He attended Ouachita Baptist
College and Texarkana Jr. College.
He married Betty Jo Hale in 1950.
They were married for 21 years.
He served in the Army after college
and returned to civilian life
as a salesman and he never met
a stranger. He served in the Marine
reserve during his civilian years.
He moved to Shreveport in 1952.
He served as a volunteer for the
Caddo Parish Sherriff’s
Reserve. He was a master at fixing
anything electronic and ran a
part time electronic repair shop
in the evenings. He was also a
semi-professional photographer.
In 1971 he brought his family
to Dallas for a job with Miller
and Assoc. He moved to Houston
in 1977. In 1981 he joined the
TDC and moved to Angleton, TX.
When he retired in 1991, he settled
in the piney woods near Shelbyville,
TX and lived the rest of his life
in what he called God’s
country. He was a patriot member
of the American Legion and the
NRA. He was a member of Lydia
Missionary Baptist Church.
He
is survived by his son Richard
Louis Stinson and wife Angelika
of The Woodlands, TX, daughter,
Sheri Lynn Beach and husband Brock
of Dallas, TX, and son Scott Allen
Stinson and wife Julie of Pilot
Point, TX. His grandchildren include
Julia Stinson of Denton, TX, Hunter
Beach and Taylor Beach, of Dallas,
TX, Ryan Stinson of Pilot Point,
TX and Taryn Stinson of Bryan,
TX. cousins Aaron Fisher and family,
Terry Fisher and family and Jan

Memorial
services for Georgia Ann
Norvell, 70, of San Augustine,
Texas, will be held at the San
Augustine Church of Christ in
San Augustine on June 13, 2008,
at 2:00 p.m. Georgia departed
this life peacefully in her loving
husband's arms Tuesday, June 10,
2008.
She was born April 8, 1938, in
El Paso, Texas, to Claude and
Florence Cockrell. She was preceded
in death by her father, Claude,
and her brother, Patrick Cockrell,
but predeceases her mother, Florence,
who now resides in a nursing home
in Dallas, Texas, at the age of
99.
Georgia is survived by her husband,
Warren J. "Crow" Norvell;
her three sons and daughters-in-law
and a daughter and son-in-law.
They are Lane and Carol Norvell
of Tyler, J.D. and Shelly Norvell
of Nacogdoches, Nickie and Steve
Phillips of Huntington, and Lance
and Denise Norvell of Nacogdoches.
Grandchildren include Clay Phillips,
Carlee Phillips, Brandon Norvell,
Cassidy Phillips, Zachary Norvell,
Madelyn Norvell, Weston Norvell,
Andrea McNall, and Ty Tatum.
Additional survivors include sister,
Claudette NcNew and husband Dan
McNew of Quinlan, brother, Mike
Cockrell and wife BK of Tyler,
and four nieces and two nephews.
Georgia attended schools in Dallas
and later graduated from Tyler
High School in Tyler, Texas. She
then attended Tyler Jr. College
where she was a member of the
Apache Belles and was named 1957
Homecoming Queen. It was at TJC
that she met her husband, Warren
"Crow" Norvell, who
was a member of the TJC Apache
football team.
She was a devoted wife, a very
loving mother to her four children,
and a fatithful member of the
San Augustine Church of Christ.
She worked for many years as a
Legal Secretary for the prestigious
Ram |
