Center High School Recognized as a 2011 NCEA Higher Performing School - November 7, 2011
Press Release
The National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA), a department of ACT, Inc., has recognized Center High School as a 2011 NCEA Higher Performing School. CHS received Higher Performing recognition based on the academic growth of students meeting Career and College Readiness Standards in the area of reading. NCEA’s identification of Higher Performing Schools is more selective than the Texas Education Agency’s Exemplary or Recognized list and comprises only about 10% of public schools in the state.
A complete list of 2011 NCEA Higher Performing Schools can be found at www.nc4ea.org. The list identifies those elementary, middle and high schools in Texas that have consistently outperformed their peers with similar student populations over a three-year period (the 2008-2009, 2009-2010, and 2010-2011 school years).
“The list of Higher Performing Schools is a valuable tool for any district that wants to evaluate areas of performance that might need strengthening. It’s also a great way to compare your school or your district to other schools of similar demographics in the state of Texas,” says Angela Hall Watkins, Assistant Vice President and Managing Director of NCEA. “The schools that really stand out are those that, over several years, have gone above and beyond their expected achievement levels given their socioeconomic status. Such commitment is truly impressive, and is a testament to the fact that economic obstacles can indeed be overcome with dedication and perseverance.”
“Center High School has continued to make great strides over the last several years and receiving this recognition demonstrates our commitment to student learning. We believe that all students are capable of graduating prepared for college and careers and we are willing to do what it takes to make it happen.,” says Heath Hagler, Center High School Principal. “Our students and our teachers work extremely hard, and it is gratifying to see them achieving such a high level of success.” |
