Thank
You Letter From SSG Casey Roberts
Family - July 9, 2008
A
SHINING LIGHT IN THE DARK
We are Pat and Brenda Yates. Our
daughter is Donnice Roberts and our
grandchildren are Caehlen and Keeghan
Roberts. Our son in law, SSG Casey
Roberts, was laid to rest at West
Hamilton cemetery on May 16, 2008.
Casey served in the U.S. Army for
6 1/2 years. During that time he had
2 tours in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan.
He was a great husband and father
to his family. We have never met a
more upstanding young man as this.
Not only was he our son in law but
also a good friend. We miss him dearly!!!!
While Casey had time off from his
duties he truly loved to spend time
in our part of this world. He loved
going to Goober Hill and spending
time fishing and hunting. He wanted
to spend all the time he could just
being around the people and beautiful
land in this area. Casey and our daughter
had even made plans to retire at the
place that he and my daughter called
home. Even though he had only been
here a few times Casey truly loved
just being here. Now he can call this
home.
My wife and I have observed a lot
of wondrous things in our 30 years
together, but nothing will ever equal
the swarm of emotions that we witnessed
as we left the funeral home and headed
to West Hamilton cemetery. Grief,
sadness, sorrow, love, honor, patriotism,
respect, pride, and so many others
that we cannot even begin to mention
them all. It is very hard to express
all the feelings that our family experienced
during this most difficult of moments.
We would like to express our sincere
thanks to everyone that had a part
in helping us say goodbye to this
fine young man. Even though it has
been almost 2 months, I still sit
here trying to fight off the tears
as I write this letter. All the people
that were involved I consider friends
and hope that the feeling is the same
from all of you. All of you are truly
a shining light in our darkest of
times. Even though this time in our
lives is some what of a blur, the
compassion of the entire community
is greatly appreciated and we cannot
even begin to tell all of you how
much your actions meant to us. All
of you are our friends!!!!
