The Board of Trustees of the Center Independent School District met in regular session September 11, 2008, in the Administration Building. School Board President Mary Lynn Tinkle called the meeting to order at 6:02 p. m.

PRESENT Mary Lynn Tinkle, Dr. Dixon Golden, Sharon Nelson, Deborah Chadwick, Superintendent James Hockenberry, Assistant Superintendent Rayford Copelin and Administrative Secretary Sarah Lee
Jim Sawyer entered the meeting at 6:06 p.m.
Dr. Florencio Singson entered the meeting at 6:07

VISITORS Center Intermediate School Principal Linda Snell, Center Elementary School Principal Kurt Radnitzer, Center Middle School Principal Gayla Miller and Curriculum Facilitator Debra Holder

INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Dr. Golden gave the Invocation and Deborah Chadwick led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

PUBLIC COMMENTS/AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION

Sharon Nelson addressed members of the school board and reported that she had visited campuses and it had been a very rewarding experience. She encouraged all board members to visit campuses.

CONSENT AGENDA APPROVED

A motion was made by Dr. Golden, seconded by Deborah Chadwick, that the consent agenda be approved containing minutes of August 14, 2008 and August 29, 2008; tax office report; the monthly financial statement and overnight student activity trip (Center FFA – Texas State Fair Swine Show – Dallas, Texas – departing on September 29, 2008 and returning October 2nd or 3rd depending on results of the sale – 2 students, Shana Brittain and Marshall Miles, Sponsors). The motion to approve the consent agenda carried unanimously.

MONTHLY ACCOUNTS PAYABLE APPROVED

A motion was made by Dr. Golden, seconded by Deborah Chadwick to approve the first series of accounts payable for August. The motion carried 5-0.
Abstaining: Mary Lynn Tinkle

A motion was made by Mary Lynn Tinkle, seconded by Dr. Golden to approve the second series of accounts payable for August. The motion carried 5-0.
Abstaining: Deborah Chadwick

A motion was made by Jim Sawyer, seconded by Sharon Nelson, to approve the remaining accounts payable for August. The motion carried unanimously.

OIL, GAS AND MINERAL LEASE TABLED

A motion made by Sharon Nelson, seconded by Deborah Chadwick, carried unanimously to table the oil, gas and mineral lease.

INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN CENTER ISD AND THE CITY OF CENTER, TEXAS TABLED

A motion by Dr. Golden, seconded by Sharon Nelson, carried unanimously to table the Interlocal Agreement between Center ISD and the City of Center, Texas.

CONFIRMATION OF DISTRICT PERFORMANCE PAY PLAN APPROVED

A motion by Deborah Chadwick, seconded by Sharon Nelson, carried unanimously to
approve the District performance pay plan as presented by Superintendent Hockenberry.

PURCHASES FOR SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT FOR 2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR

A motion was made by Sharon Nelson, seconded by Dr. Golden, that the administration be authorized to solicit vendors for the purchase of supplies and equipment for the 2008-2009 school year. The motion carried unanimously.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

An appreciation reception for F.L. Moffett Primary and Center Elementary Staff will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at 3:45 in the CES Gym. Information about housing for the TASB Conference will be distributed this week. Board members were given a report on Dual Credit/AP classes.

ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS

Administrative reports were reviewed. These reports include information for curriculum, maintenance, and campus activities.

CONVENE IN CLOSED SESSION

Mrs. Tinkle called for a closed session as authorized by Texas Government Code Chapter 551 at 7:29 p.m. for discussion of subjects allowed.

RECONVENE IN OPEN SESSION

The board reconvened in open session at 8:31 p.m. No action was taken in closed session.

RESIGNATIONS ACCEPTED

A motion by Dr. Singson, seconded by Sharon Nelson, carried unanimously to accept the resignation of Amanda Gann, secretary at AEP, effective August 20, 2008.

EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONNEL

A motion by Dr. Singson, seconded by Deborah Chadwick, carried unanimously to employ the following personnel for the 2008-2009 school year, subject to assignment:
