Tiger Roarin' Band Advances to State - October 31, 2011

Saturday, Oct. 29th, the Roarin’ Band from Tiger Land competed in the Area C Marching competition in Carthage, TX. This competition is a qualifying event for state. The top three bands advance to State Competition in San Antonio, TX. The judges selected Tenaha, Clarksville, and Shelbyville High School bands to advance to the State Competition.
Tenaha is busy preparing for the State Marching contest to be held on Monday, November 7th. Tenaha will perform at 8:30 am Monday morning. There are 16 bands to compete and the top 7 will advance to finals.
“The Band stepped up their performance since the region competition. This week we are looking to polish our performance further to win top honors at State. We are excited to continue the tradition of excellence and bring home a state title,” commented Tenaha High School’s Band Director Chris Conway. This is Tenaha’s third consecutive trip to the State Contest. The Roarin’ Band From Tiger Land finished fourth in the last State Competition and are looking to take the first place slot this year. |
Tenaha Junior Chamber of Commerce & Young Ambassadors Elect Officers - September 23, 2011

The 2011-2012 Tenaha Junior Chamber of Commerce & Young Ambassadors (JCC & YA) held their first meeting on Tuesday, September 20th at 6:00 pm in the Tenaha Community Building. Mirroring the recent boost in enrollment for the school district, the meeting had a large turnout with many new members. There are over 40 JCC & YA students in the organization this year. The members enjoyed hot dogs, chips, and cookies as they discussed the many items on the agenda such as earning community service hours, logging service hours, and important dates to remember, among many other things. JCC & YA members will participate in the Doo-Dah parade on September 28th, in Center, and volunteer service hours to work at the Poultry Festival to be held in Center on October 6-8. Several other service projects were discussed including fundraising for the Clark Partin Memorial Scholarship, and bringing back the tradition of Stone Soup, a community fund raiser to help the elderly.
Officer elections were also held during the meeting. The 2011-2012 Tenaha JCC & YA officers are: Heather Bridges – President, Ashlee Ray – Vice President, Camryn Sisk – Secretary, Ryan Palmer – Reporter/Photographer. Sponsor, Mrs. Fran Partin stated, “The turnout was great, as students came in from band, dance line, and football practice. I admire their desire for community involvement through JCCs. This is going to be a great year.”
