Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that sometime on Monday, May 18th, 2015 at 10pm to Tuesday, May 19th, 2015 at 4am, unknown suspect(s) entered into several vehicles in Shelby County. Areas in which the burglaries occurred was in the James/Antioch Communities on County Road 3215 and FM 2608. Suspect(s) stole a Pioneer stereo system and money.

Sheriff's Department Seeking Information on Deer Lease Items Theft - May 20, 2015

Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that on April 11th, 2015 suspect(s) entered onto the property of a deer lease located on County Road 1017 in Center, Texas and stole items such as a utility trailer with deer stands, deer feeder, solar panels, trail cameras, and buddy heaters. A photograph was provided from a trail camera that shows a vehicle of interest that was on the deer lease on April 09th, 2015 at approximately 12:33pm. The property was stolen on April 11th, 2015 at approximately 12:42am. Photographs were also provided depicting the some of the stolen property.

According to an updated press release, the Shelby County Sheriff's Department has discovered more areas which were burglarized.

Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that on Friday, May 08th, 2015, unknown suspect(s) forced entry into (5) residences in Shelby County.

The areas in which the burglaries occurred were (1) on FM 417 West, (2) in the Jericho Community, (1) on County Road 1234, and (1) on County Road 1510. Suspect(s) stole firearms, boots, clothing, a Sentry safe and money.


Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that on Friday, May 08th, 2015 between the hours of 9:00am and 10:00am, unknown suspect(s) forced entry into (2) residences located in the Jericho community on FM 711. Suspect(s) stole firearms, pair of Ostrich boots, a Sentry safe and money.

Sheriff's Department Seeks Information Relating to Shooting Incident - February 3, 2015

Information is being sought by the Shelby County Sheriff's Department in relation to a man who allegedly fired a rifle at a child on Monday.

Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that on Monday February 2, 2015 at around 5:15pm Sheriff’s Deputies Kurtes Lawrence, Bradley Horton and John Pope responded to a report of a juvenile who had been shot at by an unknown person.

When the deputies arrived on scene at a residence located on State Highway 87 South in the Shelbyville area. They said that the juvenile was on his own property checking some traps and observed an unknown black male described as being tall, thin built with a bald head, wearing a long sleeved shirt and blue jeans.

The juvenile stated the unknown male was about 50 yards from him and he waved at the unknown person. The juvenile stated the person then raised a long firearm at him and shot one time. Deputies, along with Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Keith Jones, searched the area but were unable to locate the person.

Sheriff's Department Seeking Information Concerning Destroyed Mailboxes - January 21, 2015

Sheriff Willis Blackwell states that during the evening of Thursday, December 25, 2014 and the morning of December 26, 2014, unidentified individual(s) destroyed several mailboxes along FM 3184, FM 3172, FM 139, and FM 417 East.

Based on the degree of destruction caused to the mailboxes, it is believed an explosive was used. One explosion caused a grass fire that burned a portion of a hay field, and another grass fire in the Huxley area was reported, but the cause remains uncertain at this time.

The suspect vehicle was described as being loud as it sped away from locations before an explosion was heard.

DPS Seeks Help Locating Fugitive - January 9, 2015

The Texas Department of Public Safety is seeking the public’s help in locating a wanted fugitive from Cherokee County. DPS received a request to locate and arrest Jimmie Edward Ervin Jr – black male, 5’-5’’ tall, 160 pounds, black hair, brown eyes, 33 years of age.

Ervin is wanted by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for Revocation of Probation (original charge: Delivery of a Controlled Substance), a first degree felony. Information was received that Ervin recently resided in Lufkin.

Sheriff's Office Seeks Information on Burglary Suspects - December 4, 2014

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is seeking information on some burglaries that occurred in the Huxley Area. Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that sometime between November 6, 2014 and November 7, 2014 some unknown suspects broke into Scarber's Grocery Store located in the Huxley Community.

Once inside, the suspect stole several items including cigarettes and tobacco products as well as some currency. Then between the dates of November 21, 2014 and November 24, 2014 some unknown suspects broke into Huxley City Hall and entered through a rear window. Once inside, the suspects destroyed a safe and stole currency out of it.

Evidence was collected at both crime scenes and is being processed. Shelby County Investigator Kevin Windham states that this took a considerable amount of time. According to Investigator Kevin Windham, the Shelby County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division is requesting the help of Center Crime Stoppers concerning an arson case they are currently investigating.
 
Center Crime Stoppers is seeking information concerning a house fire at 1595 FM 2974, Center, Texas which occurred on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at approximately 10:45pm. The Center Fire Department was dispatched to the fully involved fire and after arrival on scene, requested a Shelby County Deputy.

Deputy Adam Renfro was the officer responding and was informed the fire was suspicious. Upon investigation, Renfro observed the source of the fire appeared to be from multiple locations within the house.

The owner of the rental property is Mary Harris. Residing in the residence was Romecia Barnes, Massaud Williams, Shanice Newton, and Daraymoss Arnez Lister. The case has been turned over to the Criminal Investigation Division and the State Fire Marshal's Office.

On Saturday June 28, 2014 Shelby County Sheriff's Department Deputy Kurtes Lawrence responded to Worsham Grocery in Joaquin, Texas and took a report in regards to a burglary incident.

Sometime between Friday June 27, 2014, 5:30PM, and Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 6:00AM, suspect(s) unknown made entry into the store through the front and stole several cartons of cigarettes, several cans of snuff, as well as food products.

This case is under investigation by Investigator DJ Dickerson of the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.

Home Invasion Incident, Center Crime Stoppers Offering a $1,000 Reward - June 23, 2014

Center Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect wanted in the home invasion incident which occurred Saturday morning.

Center Crime Stoppers has approved a minimum reward of $500 for information leading to an arrest of an unidentified male suspect who assaulted two Center residents during the early morning hours on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at their residence on SH 7 West in Center, between Forest Lane and Biggars Street.

According to Center Police Department Detective Stephen Stroud, the suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet in height and at the time of the assault was wearing all black clothing with a Halloween costume mask. The mask was described to be dark in color with two horns, 1 1/2 to 2 inches long, with "crazy teeth."

Crime Stoppers Seeking Information Concerning Break-in at Tri-County - May 19, 2014

According to Center Police Department Detective David Haley, sometime between 4pm Friday, May 16th and 8:30am Monday morning, May 19th a break-in occurred at Tri-County involving several offices located on Nacogdoches Street, Center, Texas. Suspect(s) gained entry into the offices through windows and five dell computers, two of which were laptops, were taken during the burglary. Detectives handling the investigation reported having been able to collect DNA samples and fingerprints from the scene.

Detective Stephen Stroud said, "Burglaries are picking up. We would like to remind everyone to lock doors on vehicles and homes. Keep everything well lighted and if you see anything suspicious, do not hesitate to contact local law enforcement from your area.

The incident is under investigation by the Center Police Department.

Crime Stoppers Seeking Information Concerning Stolen Travel Trailer - April 15, 2014

Photo not of stolen Travel Trailer but is similar. The stolen travel trailer had an aftermarket part which made it where it could be hooked up to a gooseneck instead of a fifth wheel.

On Wednesday, April 09, 2014 it was reported that a travel trailer was stolen from Shelby RV Park. The victim advised that the trailer was last seen Saturday, April 05, 2014 and he discovered that it was missing on Wednesday, April 09, 2014. The trailer is described as a 1999 Hitchhiker Rio Grande 33 foot gooseneck Travel Trailer. It was white in color with yellow and maroon designs on the side.

Center PD Seeking Whereabouts of Suspect Involved in Stabbing Incident - February 18, 2014

Suspect wanted in stabbing incident - Mauricio Figueroa Alvarez of Center

According to a press release, the Center Police Department responded to a fight in progress on property located behind Roughrider Stadium on Sunday afternoon, February 16, 2014. Upon arrival officers discovered that Ciro Sandoval of Center had been stabbed during the altercation which occurred at a community soccer game, a non-school sanctioned event. The incident did not involve Center ISD students. He was later taken to LSU by life flight.

The suspect fled the scene on foot before officers arrived but was identified as Mauricio Figueroa Alvarez of Center and he is still at large. He has a tattoo on the right side of his chest.

Large Metal Flower Stolen Over Christmas - December 26, 2013

A large metal flower created by savage metal artist, Delbert Beckham, was stolen sometime over Christmas. According to Delbert Beckham, the flower was last seen Christmas Eve and was mounted on the top of the 'db metal art' sign located at the entrance of CR 1140 off of SH 7 West. The large flower has four yellow petals with an orange center and a green stem with two green leaves.

The theft is under investigation by Constable Zack Warr.

VFW Post 8904 Burglarized - May 1, 2013

Sometime between 4 pm on Sunday, April 28th and 8 am Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 person or persons broke into our VFW Post Home at 617 Highway 96 North here in Center. The storage building was also burglarized. There was some vandalism which can be repaired.

The ceremonial bugle that is used by our Post Honor Guard to play Taps when rendering final military funeral honors of Shelby County Veterans was stolen. The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary will be raising funds to buy a replacement as soon as possible.

Anyone with any information should contact the Shelby County Sheriff’s office at 598-5601. Post quartermaster Larry Hume can also be contacted at 598-2976.

Seeking Information Concerning Theft of Wildcat Zero Turn Mower - April 12, 2013

According to Deputy Kurtis Lawrence, a 2010 SCAG Wildcat zero turn mover, 61 inch, was reported stolen to the Shelby County Sheriff's Department on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from a residence off of FM 417 West in the Clever Creek area. The owner, Michael Taylor, reported waking up Thursday morning and finding the mover gone. The Wildcat was taken sometime between the afternoon of April 10th and the morning of April 11th during the storm. It is valued at $3,500. The incident is under investigation by Investigator John Pope.

The City of Center Police Department wants to alert the public to a rash of car burglaries around town. In an attempt to help catch suspect(s) involved the Center Crime Stoppers are now offering a Reward of $1,000 for the recovery of property or arrest of person(s) involved in these crimes!

One specific burglary which occurred happened sometime between September 9, 2012 and September 19, 2012 involved unknown suspect(s) entering a vehicle located at 630 Tenaha Street. There the suspect(s) took a nickel plated Smith and Wesson 357 magnum model # 19, revolver. The barrel was six inches long and it was complete with a basket weave holster.

Center PD Investigating Hate Crime

On Sunday, December the 5th, 2010, at approximately 6:54am Center Police Officers responded to a fire at Harry’s Smoke House located on Cora Street, Center, Texas. Officers arrived to find flames and smoke rolling from the roof of the restaurant. The Center Fire Department arrived and fought the fire putting the flames out. It was then reported by the Firefighters that we were dealing with arson. Firefighters advised that an unknown suspect(s) entered the restaurant and wrote racial slurs throughout the building. The ATF was notified and is working closely with the Center Police Department Detectives. Due to the nature of this crime, this is being investigated as a hate crime. If you know who is responsible for this crime or have any information on this or any crime, your help will be greatly appreciated. Contact Detective Stroud at 598-4244.
