Excelsior JCC Says Thank you - October 5, 2011
Submitted by Alice Howard
The Excelsior Junior Chamber of Commerce wants to thank everyone who helped us with our Emile Elementary School project in Bastrop, Tx. We met with the principal, Lacey Padgett, and presented her with several boxes of school supplies, cleaning products, and sixty-nine Walmart gift cards in the amount of $25.00 each. We also donated $100.00 to a fund that they have set up to help the families during the holidays. None of this could have been possible without the help of our friends throughout Shelby and Nacogdoches Counties.
As we approached Bastrop, through the Land of the Lost Pines, the pines are truly lost. Of the 39,000 acres of the Bastrop State Park...only 100 survived the fires. We drove towards Smithville where the damage was the worst. All of us realized that this could very well be Shelby County due to the drought conditions.
This is an experience that we will never forget.
