US Naval Academy Prep School Swearing In - May 21, 2013
Submitted by Larry Hume
On Thursday, May 16th, 2013, Joaquin High School Valedictorian Olivia Worsham was sworn into the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School by Lt. Colonel Al Charanza, US Marine Corps. The ceremony took place at the Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches with many family and friends in attendance.
The Honorable Ed Klein, Captain, USMC, Retired was the guest speaker and spoke on the many challenges ahead for Olivia and the other two candidates on hand, Nicole Peer and Andrew Callaway. All who spoke had a central theme of being physically and mentally prepared and never let your integrity come into question.
Tim James who was Olivia’s Blue and Gold Officer and helped her through the application process gave an impressive summary of her many, many accomplishments during her high school years. Oliva is the daughter of Phil and Debrah Worsham.
The Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) is located on Naval Station Newport in historic Newport, Rhode Island. The mission of the Naval Academy Preparatory School is to enhance midshipman candidates' moral, mental, and physical foundations to prepare them for success at the U.S. Naval Academy. The ten-month course of instruction at NAPS, lasting from August through May, emphasizes preparation in English Composition, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Information Technology.
Oliva will leave for the Naval Preparatory School in July and those of us in the Veterans of Foreign Wars wish her all the best and know she will make an outstanding Naval Officer. |

Submitted by Josh Crawford
Shelby County Outreach Ministries would like to give a huge THANK YOU to the U.S. Post Office in Center and the people of Shelby County! We picked up canned goods that were donated to the Post Office for the AARP Drive to End Hunger. This was an answered prayer for us and our Helping Hands Outreach Center because we are always in need of canned goods and other non perishable food items to put into our emergency food boxes. This food is going to help many families here in Shelby County fight hunger. Thank you all once again and may God bless you.
