To The Citizens of Joaquin - January 2, 2009

I was elected by the people of Joaquin to represent them on the Joaquin City Council. I have always worked to put the people of Joaquin first. As an elected official, I believe that we must put the citizen's interests first and not allow the politics of Joaquin to over shadow what's best for our citizens. Situations occur when it is easier to allow the cart to get ahead of the horse. We must refrain from allowing this to happen. I did not attend the special called meeting on December 28, 2009. The reason I did not attend this meeting is because we do not have enough council members to constitute a quorum. Section 22.039 of the Local Government Code states that 2/3's of the number of alderman constitute a quorum. This means that it would take 4 alderman to call a special meeting. As it stands right now, we only have 3 alderman. Any action that would have occurred as a result of that meeting would be void. After consulting with the Texas Attorney General's Office and The Texas Municipal League, I was advised not to attend this meeting because it did not meet the legal requirements for a called meeting. I look forward to representing the Citizens of Joaquin at our next regular meeting on January 19, 2010.The coffee pot is on and my door is always open.
