A Great First Week of School at Shelbyville Schools - August 27, 2010

We’ve had a great first week of school at Shelbyville! We anticipate great things from our students and staff during the 2010-11 school year. Enrollment numbers are up at our campuses: S. W. Carter Elementary School 393 students, Shelbyville Middle School 171 students, and Shelbyville High School 186 students. Shelbyville ISD’s total enrollment currently sits at 750 students.

Shelbyville ISD continues to strive to provide the best possible instructional delivery system and facilities for our students. Several new facility improvements opened this Fall including: (1) A new state-of-the-art High School Science and Technology Building consisting of a biology classroom and lab, a chemistry classroom and lab, a physics classroom and lab, and a technology classroom/lab; (2) An expansion of the Elementary School Annex Building, adding four additional classrooms to bring the total number of PreK through 1st Grade classrooms to ten; (3) New lighting systems for both the high school baseball field and the high school softball field. The “old” lighting systems have been relocated to the Shelbyville Youth League Athletic Complex; and (4) Adoption of state-of-the-art technology in all of the new classrooms and many other classrooms including portable visual presenters that work seamlessly with electronic media projectors, whiteboards, and other supporting equipment so that our teachers can use technology to integrate materials and resources directly into their curriculum. Shelbyville ISD offers over 550 computers throughout the school district to our students and staff. All of the new building improvements and additional technology have been implemented without requiring an increase in the school district’s tax rate.

Shelbyville ISD’s students are taught by dedicated hardworking teachers. We are excited about the new teachers who joined Shelbyville ISD this year: Beverly Jenkins (PreK), Heather McDonald (Kindergarten), Lindsay West (First Grade), Leslie Wall (Third Grade long-term substitute), Joanna Schillings (Fifth Grade), Anita Sheppard (Middle School Math), Cole Harrison (Middle School and High School Social Studies), Jeremy Mathis (High School Math), and Shaka Hawkins (Music and Band).

Although we are proud of our past accomplishments, Shelbyville ISD’s is always striving to improve. We remain committed to providing a top quality educational system that promotes the development of our young people as scholars, leaders, and citizens. By working together, we can all help instill and promote the knowledge, values, and principles in our young people that make our country the greatest in the world. It is a great time to be a Dragon…Proud to be a Dragon! |
