Carter Walk Across Texas Kick Off
- September 25, 2008
Submitted by Claudann M. Jones
The S.W.Carter Elementary 5th grade
students hosted their Walk
Across Texas Kick-Off Event at the
Shelbyville High School Track on September
22, 2008. The students danced and
walked to songs such as "Walk
Like an Egyptian" and "Walk
Like a Man." Terri Walton served
again as the disc jockey for this
event singing karaoke at times to
keep the students motivated and Coach
Jonathan Martin was also participating.
And, of course, none of this would
be possible if it weren't for Physical
Education Teacher Marla Denby. Marla
has such a positive attitude and a
true passion for the health of her
classes. County Agent Claudann Jones
and Walk Across Texas Coalition President
Deborah Johnson (Walk Stars) attended
the Kick-Off event. Assistant Superintendant
Jill Baty and secretary Debbie Gilcreast
were also on hand to help with festivities.
Thanks to all for volunteering and
making S.W. Carter Elementary a Healthier
School.
There are 65 fifth grade students,
41 fourth grade students and 67 third
grade students participating in the
8 week, 830 mile competition. If you
or your school would like to participate,
please call the Texas AgriLife Extension
Office at 598-7744 or 3223 or email
Claudann M. Jones at cmjones@ag.tamu.edu
Wish them luck.
